Scientist, Assay Development

Closing Date: 05/01/2022

At F-star, we are dedicated to developing next generation immunotherapies to transform the lives of patients with cancer. We develop mAb², a novel class of disruptive bispecific antibody-based therapies that have the potential to overcome tumor resistance and restore anti-cancer immunity and responsiveness.

We are committed to delivering life-changing treatments for the estimated 80% of patients with cancer who currently fail to have a durable response to immunotherapies.

Our wholly owned pipeline shows focused and potent immune activation, with a promising safety profile to date.

We’re an agile, international team with dual headquarters in Cambridge, UK and Cambridge, Massachusetts. We empower our teams to decide where and when they work to deliver our goals.

Working within our Bioanalytical and Biomarker Development Team, you will be central to the progression of projects through pre-clinical and clinical stages. Your role will be lab-based and responsible for developing and qualifying/validating in vitro assays either for analysing non-regulated study samples in our Cambridge facility, or for transfer and technical supervision of work conducted within contract research organisations. You’ll work in a matrix with other functions to translate Project requirements into a bioanalytical strategy and provide data for key Project milestones.

  • Act as the Bioanalytical/Biomarker Lead on multi-functional Project Team to contribute to project goals, provide direction on bioanalytical strategies and give progress updates to key stakeholders.
  • Design and qualify/validate methods (e.g. PK, ADA, nAb, serum biomarkers) to support analytical strategies in line with Project goals. Carry out analysis of data to identify issues and implement necessary changes.
  • Responsible for technical supervision of other scientists involved in developing bioanalytical and biomarker assays
  • Lead or contribute to technical troubleshooting with outsourced bioanalytical and biomarker assays, including but not limited to PK, ADA, serum biomarkers, flow cytometry assays.
  • Communicate effectively with the Principal Scientist to maintain consistent cross-project scientific approaches and appropriate team resourcing.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and motivated to succeed. You’ll be great at problem solving, with a strong attention to detail. Effective communication skills are important along with the proven ability to work well within teams, both in person and in a virtual environment.

  • Minimum 2 years of assay development experience (PK, ADA and matrix biomarkers) within a biotech/biopharma/academic setting
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Experience with cell-based assays
  • Proficient in designing and optimising immunological assays and/or biological experiments for robustness and reliable data quality, interpretation of data and trouble shooting
  • Experience understanding factors affecting assay robustness and assay performance
  • Excellent record-keeping and ensuring high levels of data quality
  • Enthusiasm to learn and optimise new methods
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to work well in teams and independently in both face to face and virtual settings

  • Experience with cell-based receptor occupancy assay
  • Experience with neutralising antibody assays
  • Experience with R programming (e.g. ggplot, tidyverse) or other programming language
