Transine Therapeutics is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and talented senior cell & biomarker assay expert to lead our Cell Assay and Biomarker team, based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, one of the UK’s leading biotech hubs.

Transine is developing a novel class of therapeutic RNAs that upregulate protein expression with an unprecedented level of control and specificity: the SINEUPs. With its unique mechanism of action, the SINEUP® platform enables a wide range of novel targets to be addressed across a range of therapeutic areas. The individual recruited into this position will play a crucial role towards developing our research platform to advance both our existing ocular/CNS programmes and enable target validation and selection of new targets.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and dynamic scientist to lead a team of scientists undertaking cellular assay and early biomarker development to drive candidate SINEUP optimization and translation towards the clinic; playing a key role in shaping an exciting Biotech in the rapidly advancing RNA therapeutics field.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • To supervise/develop a team to meet the growing scale of the company’s research programmes.
  • To lead cell-based assay and early biomarker assay development and implementation to support Transine pipeline projects and platform development.
  • Lead the optimization of plasmid, AAV, lentivirus and oligonucleotide modalities in cellular assays
  • Lead exploration and implementation of biomarker strategies from (maximizing knowledge from patients) to support Transine’s project progression towards the clinic
  • Collaborate with other Research Directors to build biomarker strategies across in vitro/in vivo interface
  • Identify key technologies to support cell-based assay and biomarker assay development
  • Interface with external academic/CRO collaborators to deliver data supporting the Transine discovery and development pipeline
  • Ensure execution of high-quality work from the team, demonstrating an excellent attention-to-detail and an appreciation of the broad Company research goals.
  • Work to clear and tight timelines, disseminating data and updates in a timely manner via excellent written and verbal communication in internal and external meetings, as required.
  • Operate in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues both within and external to the Transine team.
  • Ensure that appropriate work and safety practices/SOPs are established within this area of cell-based assay development.


Essential Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A degree in the biological sciences (PhD).
  • A strong background in cell-based assay development for drug discovery is essential.
  • Use of different readouts of potency in cells, including standard techniques such as western blotting and ELISA, fluorescence/luminescence-based readouts, Seahorse, flow cytometry.
  • 5 years+ significant hands-on laboratory experience working in an industrial or biotech setting, with an evidenced track record of leading a team delivering high quality data to tight
  • A strong understanding of the drug discovery process, and an appreciation of the key requirements for working in a biotech start-up.
  • Line management/supervision
  • Ability to assist in developing and establishing laboratory activities and
  • Ability to collaborate across teams within Transine, to resource and deliver project strategies.
  • A strong understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis and data
  • An evidenced track record of delivering high quality data to tight
