About the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic laboratory-based protein purification scientist to work in the Protein Purification Development group, providing key reagents and writing processes to help progress both research and development projects to the next stage of the pipeline. Mainly focused on antibodies and antibody-based proteins, you will be involved with numerous projects at various stages of R&D and will have the opportunity to become involved in their development by playing a vital role in this core team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purification of antibodies and other proteins from mammalian cell culture supernatant
  • Develop the process, optimise, and define purification conditions for standard antibodies and for novel antibody formats
  • Using your experience in scale-up (AKTA Pilot) and/or scale-down processes (RoboColumns) to aid CMC development work
  • Biophysical QC of above material (UPLC-SEC, SDS-PAGE/CE-SDS, HCP-analysis etc.)
  • Providing support to several projects simultaneously, linking effectively with the research and CMC project leaders and other scientists as required
  • Working with global teams to prepare processes for technical transfer and scale up to Pilot and GMP facilities
  • Clear and accurate data collection and presentation
  • Knowledge or experience of platform process design would be advantageous

Key Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent industrial experience with a very hands-on approach
  • Experience in biotech or biopharma is desirable
  • Experienced in commonly used protein purification techniques (Affinity, IEX, SEC etc)
  • Experienced in use of AKTA-FPLCs and TFF equipment
  • Experience of using liquid handling robots for automated chromatography development is desirable – particularly using Tecan Fluent
  • Experience of manual and automated column packing is desirable
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking to devise strategies to optimise purification processes
  • Ability to work to deadlines and maintain clear and accurate records
  • Experience with commonly used software is desirable (Unicorn, Fluent Control, JMP etc)
  • Strong organisational ability and a good team player
