We’re looking for a Laboratory and Facilities Assistant to join the team, assisting with the day-to-day running of F-star’s laboratories and general facilities. This is a practical, hands-on role providing a wide range of services to support our exciting research and development activities. Full training will be provided; meaning that we welcome applicants with or without previous experience in the scientific sector.


• Communicating with laboratory users to support and resolve issues in a timely manner

• Point of contact for visitors and the security booking procedure

• The making of buffers, media, agar plates and other reagents

• Working alongside Human Resources to onboard new members of staff

• Using our procurement systems to maintain stock levels for both the laboratory and facility

• Taking receipt of deliveries and distributing them appropriately

• Arranging external maintenance visits and contracts

• Partaking in key decisions such as Health and Safety and lab design


We’re looking for a quick learner who is highly motivated with an ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment. You’ll have a can-do, friendly and supportive attitude. You’ll be a confident communicator who can work as part of a team but is also self-motivated and proactive when working independently. You will be attentive to the facility as a whole and enjoy taking on further responsibilities as the role progresses.


Experience within a scientific background or working in a similar role is preferable although not essential, and you’ll have the confidence in handling varied queries from all levels of staff and external companies. You’ll be able to demonstrate effective collaborative skills having previously worked within a team.

You’ll ideally have worked in a fast paced, busy role before which has given you experience in effectively prioritising your work daily, working to tight deadlines and quickly and calmly adapting to changes.

You should have good IT skills preferably in MS Office, including Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint and you’ll be able to apply these within a business setting.
