Cambridge Protein Works is looking for a protein scientist. Ideal candidates would possess a range of knowledge and skills in recombinant bacterial/mammalian/antibody protein expression, protein purification using affinity/ion exchange/gel filtration chromatography, mammalian and bacterial culture, gene cloning, mutagenesis, ELISA, high throughput assay development, tissues culture (primary and stable cell line), immunostaining, western blotting, & project management.

Cambridge Protein Works (CPW) is a small but expanding company, spun out from the University of Cambridge. Founded and managed by a team of structural biologists, we specialise in the production of an ever-expanding range of recombinant proteins and conducting bespoke contract research to a wide range of leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as academic laboratories around the world. CPW specialises in the field of blood coagulation and its control mechanisms, however research projects extend into many other biological areas. CPW is located on the beautiful Babraham Research Campus, set in 430 acres of parkland and which offers many benefits including a coffee bar and cafeteria, gym and sports facilities, and social clubs.

The role

The role would suit someone with practical experience in recombinant protein production, and we are particularly interested in people with extensive antibody production experience. Candidates will likely have a PhD in biochemistry or similar, but we will consider anyone with the appropriate skill set in protein production and biochemical analysis techniques. The successful candidate will also have good communication skills and be able to record, analyse and report results to the high standard required by our clients.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design of expression constructs

• Mammalian cell culture

• Bacterial culture

• Protein purification using a wide range of techniques (IEX, SEC, Affinity etc) using state-of-the-art chromatography systems

• Protein assay and characterisation using a wide range of biochemical and biophysical techniques

• Project management and input into project design.

• Interpersonal communication and presentation skills and reporting of results to project teams and clients
