YOUR ROLE IN OUR TEAM: 
We have an exciting opportunity for a 1st Line Support to join our small but busy IT team, providing day-to-day support to a variety of internal users and working with laboratory and office-based systems. This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to develop and gain experience within a fast-paced and varied environment. This role is for a 12-month period in the first instance to provide additional support through a busy period. 

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
You’ll be supporting a range of 1st line support activities for both our Cambridge, UK based headquarters as well our UK and international remote users. Responsibilities will include; 

  • 1st line support of laptops, servers, printers, O365, Azure and on premise VM server environments 
  • Supporting the onboarding of new starters such as the setup of new users including laptops and user profiles 
  • Decommissioning of old users in line with leaver processes 
  • Installation of software, including Microsoft and scientific packages 
  • Laboratory software and hardware installation and management 
  • Daily checks and backups 
  • Supporting our onsite meeting capabilities, such as making sure AV equipment in meeting rooms is working correctly and supporting issues which arise 
  • Supporting remote workers with ad-hoc issues and queries 

 

A BIT ABOUT YOU: 
We’re looking for a quick learner who is highly motivated with an ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment. You’ll have a can-do, friendly, supportive attitude with a passion for excellent customer service. You’ll be a confident communicator who can work as part of a team but is also self-motivated and proactive when working independently.

 

YOUR SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 
You should have a good knowledge of Office 365 and Azure and will have worked with ticketing systems previously. Knowledge of laptop imaging software and user creation is also essential, with an understanding of Active Directory and Microsoft environments. You’ll also have experience of managing Endpoint solutions and detecting issues, with good general problem-solving skills. 

Ideally, we’re looking for knowledge of Linux, Cyber security products and some experience of scientific software, although transferable skills and a desire to learn will be considered. 

This role will support both our onsite employees and remote workers in line with our approach to agile working, so you’ll need to be comfortable with regular travel to our Cambridge, UK site as well as working within a virtual environment on your own. 

 

OTHER DETAILS: 
F-star’s UK office is based in Cambridge, UK and this is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week). This is for a 6-month fixed term contract in the first instance.
