BRC Agent Event: Agents Campus Tour

29/05/2025

We were delighted to welcome over 20 local and London based agents to the Campus recently, giving them the chance to tour our facilities and discover for themselves what makes Babraham Research Campus such a draw for early-stage life science ventures.

Hosted in partnership with BioMed Realty, agents enjoyed a traditional ‘agents’ breakfast’ and chance to catch up with colleagues in the Bennet Building café, after which Derek Jones, Campus CEO, welcomed the group:

“We are all about impact. Undoubtedly, we have fantastic buildings, but what I really want to emphasise are the other things we do which set us apart, including the community activities we organise, the PhD programmes we run, access to equipment in the Babraham Institute, our communal lab spaces in LiveLabs, enabling access to other BBSRC sites and our lease flexibility. We are fortunate to be supported by UKRI-BBSRC, which allows us to really focus on nurturing early-stage companies to enable them to one day leave here and grow-on within the wider Cambridge cluster community.

“I hope that whilst you are with us today, you’ll get a real sense of the multitudinous benefits of being based at Babraham Research Campus. The additional support and services we offer our companies is second to none – and sometimes not recognised until they leave to go elsewhere! Access to laboratory support services such as glassware washing and autoclaves, provision of clinical and chemical waste disposal and access to laboratory store is standard practice here and a distinguishing feature of life on Campus. Our ability to support and nurture these early-stage ventures comes with the hope and expectation that they will grow into the scale-up companies of tomorrow; fuelling the onward success of our cluster but also, more importantly, delivering the breakthrough research and treatments that will have an impact on all of our tomorrows.”

Derek, then handed over to William Clarke, Director of Leasing at BioMed Realty:

“Derek has summed up the benefits of being located here perfectly and we are exceptionally proud to be part of this Campus. A collaboration with the Campus in 2017 marked the start of our involvement, and resulted in the development of two buildings, both completed in 2020. In addition, we have recently completed our third building on Campus, Building 960, a 40,000 sq ft fully fitted R&D facility as part of a joint venture with Babraham.

“What really attracted us to the Campus is the strength of the operational team and the innovative community of companies already based here which dovetails very well with our community over at Granta Park. On a wider level the Campus sits as a key location not only at a local level but nationally too.”

The group were then invited to tour the Campus to view the currently available space, taking in BioMed Realty’s Buildings 940 and 960 and the additional lab and write-up spaces (from 600 sq ft upwards) available across the wider Campus. A visit to the Cambridge Building, the Campus’ exceptional amenity building with restaurant, café, bar and meeting / conferencing facilities was also on the agenda, before returning to the Bennet Building prior to departure.
